"Providing Suggestions to the Mississippi River for Bank Stabilization,
Channel Navigation, and Flood Control"
| In 1992, Beacon personnel
developed, and continue to support to this day, the Computer Aided Design
and Drafting (CADD) and Geographic Information System (GIS)-based software
used on-board the Revetment construction plants used to place articulated
concrete mattress Revetments on the banks of Mississippi River for
purposes of erosion control to protect the main-line levees. This work
involved system integration and coordination of numerous real-time sensors
including GPS, laser range-finders, multiple computers, digital display
signs, and several types of echosounders. Innovative navigational
techniques and interfaces were required for clearly presenting where
construction equipment is located and where it needs to be in order to
achieve site construction objectives for bank protection. |
