In engineering site design, features of interest are often
annotated with their Easting/Northing coordinate location.
In MicroStation, this coordinate location can be obtained by using
a tentative point, i.e. simultaneously pressing the right and left mouse
buttons. To actually annotate
the feature, however, requires that the coordinates be manually typed in
to the text editor and then placed in position.
For Easting/Northing coordinates, each of which are typically six
or seven digits long, this can occasionally result
in typographical errors which are difficult to detect.
The data point annotator is an interactive utility allowing
engineer’s to easily perform Easting/Northing annotation of features in
the design file. Interface
controls allow the active text angle and text height to be easily
specified. When the
“Annotate Data Points” toggle is pressed an Easting/Northing
annotation is made each time the data button is pressed.
Additionally, a zero-length line is placed at the exact coordinates
of the mouse to allow subsequent “snapping” to the precise location of
the annotation.
The utility also provides a vertex elevation editor. In MicroStation no readily apparent tools are provided for
changing the elevation of an individual vertex on an existing element.
The elevation of the entire element can certainly be changed but
not an individual vertex. When an element is selected, the vertex nearest to the mouse
position when the element was selected will be modified.
The current elevation of the vertex is then shown on the interface
form. It may be changed to a
different absolute value, or an offset difference in elevations may be
applied. The vertex is
actually modified when the “Modify Vertex” toggle is pressed.
